KL's playground for pretzels promises fun for patrons & palates of all ages, parading a carousel of doughy delights with tantalising twists at its two cosy, conveniently located outposts at IPC Shopping Centre (outside IKEA) & Solaris Mont Kiara.
Begin with the basics: Pretz n' Beanz is a purveyor of pretzel pleasures in every shape & size, but for the ideal introduction, order the original plain or one that's flavoured. Our choice: the Basil Cheese (RM7.30), convincingly textured - crisp on the outside, with a soft chew within, fragrant & savoury, exuding a warm, fresh-from-the-oven feel. Other pretzel options include the likes of Sesame Sugar or Chocolate Peanut Crunch, with discretionary dips such as Caramel or Sour Cream & Onion.
Beyond that, the imagination of Pretz n' Beanz's menu masterminds truly takes flight, with crowd-pleasing stuffed pretzels, including both salty & sweet interpretations. Sausage lovers may relish the hearty, meaty pretzel-wrapped chicken hot dog (RM11.55), while strudel enthusiasts might be intrigued by a pretzel version that's rich with hot apple jam & aromatic with punchy cinnamon (RM11.55). Pretz n' Beanz pledges that its pretzels comprise natural dough, with no added preservatives.
Pretzel pizzas? A thorough treat for devotees of thick, deep-dish-style crusts that yield a full-bodied bite. These come in seven-inch & 10-inch renditions (we ordered the smaller size, which still sufficed for sharing); the sweet potato & mozzarella pretzel pizza (RM13.65) boasts well-balanced flavours & creamy-cheesy textures. Other temptations include pretzel pizzas crowned with possibilities like beef pepperoni, Hawaiian chicken, prawns & crab sticks, or sauteed mushrooms & black olives.
Pretz n' Beanz also serves full meals with pretzel accompaniments. For brunch fans, check out the baked eggs, part of the all-day breakfast selection - surprisingly terrific, with a runny yolk that blends beautifully with the other components of minced chicken, beans, tomato & chilli. At RM17.90, one of the city's cheaper baked eggs, but it may rank among the most satisfying.
Come dinnertime, a succulent stew awaits: European comfort fare of Hungarian-inspired beef goulash with German-inflected pretzels (RM20.05). Alternatively, you could go Asian, with a Thai-influenced green curry (RM17.90) to pair with your pretzel.
The 'Beanz' is well-represented by this urban haven's beverages - coffee & tea are capably prepared, from classics like a piccolo latte (RM7.90) to contemporary concoctions like the chai latte (RM12.90), plus plenty of cool creations to beat the heat: an Florentine Cookie Ice-blended (RM13.90), Mean Green Juice (RM13.50, with apple, celery, lemon, cucumber & ginger root) & Peppermint Milkshake (RM14.90).
