Lorem Ipsum @ Bangkung, Bangsar

Meet Bangsar's newest hidden cafe, helmed by Lynette, Christopher & a band of their fellow advertising executives whose 'brewing-&-jamming' concept space seems set to spark substantial word-of-mouth.

Lorem Ipsum is perched (without a signboard) above a dentist's office on Jalan Bangkung; it's a unique addition to a street that's more well-known for upmarket Italian & Spanish restaurants (hi, Cava!). Plus point: Parking's free & pretty easy here.

If you're looking for a calm & crowd-free hideout, then Lorem Ipsum fits the bill for now. The cafe's name is a nod to its founders' profession: 'Lorem ipsum' is a publishing term that refers to filler text in visual presentations.

Art Jamming activities will be one of the highlights here - Lorem Ipsum supplies easels & canvasses for visitors to express themselves through acrylic paint & brushes, also provided by the cafe. At the end of each two or three-hour session - to be scheduled soon on selected days; charges so far not confirmed - bring your work home with you.

Or take a break on the terrace, watch the world go past & contemplate the year that's breezed by - 2014 has been terrific for discreetly located new coffee bars in Bangsar, from DR.Inc to PCLO, Monkey Garage to PULP.

What makes Lorem Ipsum even more enticing is its food, sourced from local independent entrepreneurs. Don't skip the tarts by home baker Ling's Kitchen; they're delicious, compellingly well-made with top-flight ingredients.

Wild mushroom quiche, beautifully textured & fresh-tasting; Gula Melaka egg tart, a tasty take on familiar flavours; Belgian dark chocolate mousse tinged with raspberries; plus other offerings like Earl Grey egg tarts & passion fruit meringue tarts. We've never met Ling, but we sure hope she's a nice person, since we really like her baking.

Also available at Lorem Ipsum: KL's latest purveyors of artisanal ice cream, Finespun.

Intriguing ice cream flavours by Finespun include Kuih Karas + Salted Butter Caramel, Lavender + Kaya, Brown Bread & Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. RM9 for 5oz portions that two can share. The flavours are well-balanced & pleasing, with textures that lean a little closer to soft & airy instead of dense & creamy.

K-Pok Keropok Cili Kuantan, easily addictive. Hot food will be available within a few weeks - expect a Naughty-or-Nice menu (nasi kerabu with ayam percik for the former, quinoa salads for the latter).

Lorem Ipsum's coffee beans come from Papa Palheta, while its craft beers hail from Taps Beer Bar.
