Meet the potential future stalwarts of Malaysia's culinary landscape at Athanor, a new lunchtime restaurant that serves as a real-work training ground for senior students of Sunway University's Centre for Tourism, Hospitality & Culinary Management.
Welcoming the public for walk-ins, the current team of nine students tackles Western fare with contemporary flair, including a tomato salad with pesto sauce, mozzarella & mixed seaweed (RM18 nett), roasted spring chicken with wilted watercress & Idaho potato puree (RM28), stir-fried beef with rice pilaf, pumpkin & arugula (RM28) & linguine aglio olio, loaded with black truffles (RM30), demonstrating a foundation of sufficient skill that should eventually lead these graduates to greater heights.
Desserts are a visual treat: Creamy mascarpone puffs with mango-basil sauce (RM18) & a gooey caramelised banana-chocolate tart with Athanor's own-made Madagascar vanilla ice cream (RM17), both enjoyable, downed with the signature beverage - Cloud @ 6 (RM13) - comprising a dark chocolate sphere melted in the heat of coffee, milk & marshmallows.
