Soleil: Round Two. Earlier entry: August 6.
Jerusalem artichoke broth with crispy lotus root (RM36++). Smoothly creamy, delicate in flavor. Sure, this is expensive for plain-looking soup, but it's a nice change from, say, mushroom soup.
Cool combo of East-West elements: Ocean trout marinated with Asian herbs & spices, refreshingly topped with Thai-inspired mango salad & tomyam-tinged jelly cubes (RM36++).
Risotto with squid & shrimp, fennel, basil cream & aioli (RM68++). Satisfyingly thick, but perhaps cooked for a little longer than necessary.
More squid, this time stuffed & laid over a seafood emulsion (RM36++). What lies within?
A fluffy mince of prawns & veggies. Quite nicely done, this one.
Don't skip dessert at Soleil: this pandan crepe with coconut sorbet (RM26++) is a bona fide hit.
Open the package to uncover bananas sweetened with Gula Melaka. Mighty fine fusion.
Chocolate tart (rich), fig marshmallow (heavenly) & lime madeleine (the Klang Valley's best?).
Soleil supplies an excellent opportunity for us to explore whether we prefer Burgundy or Bordeaux reds; both are available by the glass at RM32++.
Honorable mention for Soleil's hardworking, friendly & knowledgeably efficient service team.
